Brief update on Major...he had surgery today at 12:30 in NICU level 3. The surgery took about 45 minutes. He will stay in level 3 for a few days, after which he will move to Level 2, and then FINALLY work his way out of the hospital entirely. The issue of throwing up (projectile vomiting) after every feed just started a few days ago. The Dr's were pretty sure what it was but we had to wait on the X-Rays to prove the point.
The condition is called pyloric stenosis (http://kidshealth.org/parent/medical/digestive/pyloric_stenosis.html), which means that the muscle between his stomach and small intestine has thickened to the point that it is not letting any food through for digestion. The Dr.s put him on IV fluid only yesterday. The surgery went well and he is recovering with no issues.
The Dr's say that this is a fairly common condition. They said that it most frequently happens in first born males, and that it is unrelated to his prematurity. Please continue to pray for Major. Ask Saint Jude to continue to send special prayers for the health of our precious boys.
